MINISTRY OF NATIONAL EDUCATION

WELCOME TO MY MATH PAGE

Elifhoca is a personel website focuses on helping 5th to 8th grade students in math topics. Especially designed for the students to whom try to learn English as a second language. One could reach various math references and colorful websites over internet by using english. To do so, basic math terms should be learned.  I will do my best to help you on gaining these basics skills.

Common Core Standards for Mathematics used in United States of America (48 states, two territories and the District of Columbia) as education guides are accepted primary reference in this webpage. Fundamental standards for both math, english language and art/literacy education can be summarized as:

  • Research and evidence based

  • Clear, understandable, and consistent

  • Aligned with college and career expectations

  • Based on rigorous content and the application of knowledge through higher-order thinking skills

  • Built upon the strengths and lessons of current state standards

  • Informed by other top-performing countries to prepare all students for success in our global economy and society

The standards focus on core concepts and procedures starting in the early grades, which gives teachers the time needed to teach them and gives students the time needed to master them. For grades K-8, grade-by-grade standards exist in English language arts/literacy and mathematics. For grades 9-12, the standards are grouped into grade bands of 9-10 grade standards and 11-12 grade standards. You may find detailed information about math standards here

You may ask me why i use the USA common core standards instead of other countries which are more successful than US on assessment programs and tests such as PISA, TIMSS and PIRLS. This is a good question and i also asked the same one to myself, before i prepared this website. All my knowledge about this issue based on; reading, examining of official reports and web surfing.

There are 17 US universities at the top 20 in the CWUR - World University Rankings 2019-2020 list. These are the top three in the mentioned list

  1. Harvard University - USA

  2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) - USA

  3. Stanford University - USA

USA's Common Core standards are designed to prepare their own students  for higher education given by american universities. And the high quality/top ranking universities demands high level  attributes. Program developers try to cope up with that kind of requests in the design process of the  common core standards. Because of that reason i preferred to follow the US Common Core Mathematics Standards in my math page (only for the english version).

I was graduated from the Middle East Technical University (METU) in 2007. And my university experiences showed me the english language ability is directly proportional with succes in lessons given in english. Top universities in Turkey also use english as the education language. So, learning of the basic math and science terms (in english) will help you in your future education plan.

Note: English is not my native language so, i will be happy if you share your ideas and feedbacks for the english version of my math page.
